Britney storms the X Factor... but was she miming?

After four years absence from British television screens Britney Spears made a storming comeback on the X factor last night.

But those fans able to look past the skimpy PVC hotpants and fishnet stockings were left wondering whether the long-awaited performance was all that it seemed.

Indeed some fans were quickly debating on internet forums whether Britney had been miming the words to her new single Womanizer.

The pop princess' energetic dance routine did not seem to interrupt her vocals - which seemed near perfect.

This was despite apparent problems with her microphone, which she touched several times during the three-minute performance.

A spokeswoman for the X Factor production company insisted Britney had been singing, telling MailOnline: 'There were some live vocals, but that's a question for the record company.

ut for those who have watched Britney go through a much-publicised breakdown, then make an astonishing return to form, perhaps it didn't matter.

Louis Walsh certainly wasn't worrying about Britney's vocals.

He was wide eyed as the 27-year-old bounded across the stage to a position next to the judge's table.

As she bounced up and down Louis broke into a large smile, perhaps appreciating the novelty of his front-row view of Britney's scantily clad derrieré.

After her performance a grinning Britney told presenter Dermot that appearing on the X Factor was 'awesome' and 'amazing'.

'I love being here in London,' she gushed.

Unlike guest stars Take That and Mariah Carey, Britney did not mentor the contestants ahead of last night's show.

And when pushed as to whether she had any advice for them she told Dermot: 'Good luck and just keep doing it!'

Back on top: Vamped-up Britney wows the crowds at German awards show as she prepares for X Factor performance

Britney Spears delivered a show-stopping performance at a German awards ceremony tonight as she prepared for her highly-anticipated performance on X Factor.

The pop star showed off her slimmed-down body in hot pants, fishnet tights and a transparent black top at the 2008 Bambi Awards in Offenburg.

Spears – who releases her sixth album Circus next week – showed that she was back to her best as she strutted around seductively on stage and writhed around a large metallic circular cage.

Earlier today the singer’s mother Lynne Spears said that the 26-year-old had finally turned her life around after her much publicised breakdown and was now ready to return to the pop game.

'We’re going to get this done and it’s all going to be good. You just wait and see.' she told Lorraine Kelly on GMTV

She said even now she found it hard to understand the level of her daughter's fame.

'My friends and I, we talk about it and they go, "What is the deal? I mean, what’s so interesting about Britney?" And people that have known us all our lives are mystified – they go, "What is the deal?"'

Her upcoming appearance on X Factor will mark a reunion for Spears and her former choreographer Brian Friedman as well as her first performance on British TV screens in five years.

He said: 'She is such a sweet, endearing person. It will be nice to reconnect.

'Last year, I asked her to come and do X Factor but she was too hectic. This year it's happening. I'm so glad to see her back on track. Her performance is going to be incredible.'

X Factor judge Simon Cowell is looking forward to Spears' performance, having often commented on the singer over the years.

In January this year, when Spears was hospitalised for psychiatric evaluation, he said: 'She's welcome to call me any time.

'I genuinely think that if I sat down with Britney and, No. 1, remind her of all the good things in her life - which are her kids, her money, her success, everything - I'd try to give her a sense of perspective. And then I'd take her out of where she's living at the moment and ask her to go and live with her family - and live normally - for six months.'

Cowell is glad to see Spears - who has two children, Sean Preston, 3, and Jayden
James, 2, with ex-husband Kevin Federline - making a comeback after previously revealing his fears that her career was over following her disastrous performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last year.

He said at the time: 'If I had been looking after Britney I’d have taken one look at her in rehearsals and I wouldn’t have allowed her on stage.

'It would have been worth pulling her off the bill - no matter what the cost - to save any chance she had of resurrecting her career. She wasn’t ready for that show in every possible way.

'The problem she has now is that she could have killed her career. It’s difficult to come back from that performance, for a while at least.'

After a difficult few years, during which she went through a divorce and was hospitalised twice for psychiatric evaluation, Spears is now looking better than she has in years.

Since dealing with her problems with the help of her father Jamie and mother Lynne, Spears has been focusing her energies of getting her career back on track.

She picked up three awards at the MTV Video Music Awards in September for her single Piece Of Me, and continued her success at the MTV Europe Music Awards last week with two trophies - even though she was unable to attend the Liverpool ceremony.

Earlier this month, Spears wowed fans when she joined Madonna on stage during the Material Girl's Los Angeles gig.

Her sixth studio album Circus is set for release on December 2 - her 27th birthday.

My kids have learned the F-word from K-Fed, says Britney as she poses in wholesome cover for Rolling Stone

Britney Spears appears finally to have put her much-publicised breakdown behind her after landing the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

Despite striking a wholesome pose in jeans and T-shirt on the publication, Britney admits her son's language is not so clean-cut.

The singer admits she was horrified to discover Sean Preston, three, has been using the F-word, while two-year-old brother Jayden James likes calling people 'stupid'.
She tells the prestigious magazine: 'Every time they come to visit me, I think about how much they're such special people.

'(But they) are starting to learn words like 'stupid', and Preston says the f-word now sometimes.

'He must get it from his daddy (Kevin Federline). I say it, but not around my kids.'

She also reveals she has started dating again after her controversial relationship with paparazzo Adnan Ghalib earlier this year.

But the chance for romance has been severely limited because she is chaperoned by her assistant Brett and Adam Leber, an associate of her manager Larry Rudolph.

She said: '(One recent date) right when we got there, we just knew it was just bad. He looked like an older version of Harry Potter, but skinnier... So I had to get dessert first.

'And the other date I had, the guy was really, really tall and a lot older.

'We're trying to ask him questions, like, "Ok, you're into martial arts, so what kind of martial arts are you into?" And he was like, "Oh, all kinds." But you know how silly we are, so we were just cracking up.'

Britney's cover shot harks back to her pre-meltdown image as an innocent all-American girl, the photograph cements what has been a remarkable comeback for the troubled Toxic singer.

With a recent number one U.S. single, Womanizer, and new album Circus out next week, Britney looks to have travelled a long way since she removed her hair with electric clippers in full view of the paparazzi in February 2007.

Britney has appeared on the cover of Rolling Stones five times before, her previous appearance being more than five years ago.

Her first appearance on the cover of the magazine in April 1999 caused controversy because she was 17 at the time.

In the photo, taken by David LaChapelle, a teenage Britney poses in her underwear on the phone while clutching a Teletubbies Tinky Winky doll.

The 26-year-old was spotted leaving LAX airport in California yesterday, accompanied by her protective father Jamie, who held a hand over the star's mouth to prevent her from talking to photographers.

Britney was catching a flight to Germany, before she then goes to France and finally England for a promotional tour of her single, Womanizer.

In London, she will make a live appearance on reality show The X Factor on Saturday.

Britney's appearance comes after Mariah Carey and Will Young appeared on recent Saturdays, mentoring the contestants.

The X Factor episode will mark Britney's first UK television performance for five years.

Britney reunites with Madonna on stage... shame they didn't swap clothes

Fans turning up for the Britney Spears and Madonna reunion would have been expecting to see the 26-year-old in a typically raunchy outfit.

But instead the 50-year-old Material Girl was the one wearing the more revealing clothes as the pair performed a duet on stage.

The pop megastars looked like they should have swapped outfits as they sang together at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles during Madonna's Sticky and Sweet tour.
A demure looking Britney, dressed in a simple white blouse and black trousers was invited on stage by Madonna and joined in with one of her songs.

And Madonna was also joined by Justin Timberlake to join in with another of her hits.

Rumours that the former couple, who split in 2002, would perform together with Madonna proved unfounded though as they did not appear together on stage.

The three stars sharing the same stage appeared quite a draw to the Hollywood crowd.

Among the stars in attendance at the gig were German supermodel Heidi Klum, Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere, Kate Moss, Jennifer Lopez and former Ally McBeal star Lucy Liu.

Also watching were Madonna's two eldest children Lourdes, 12, and Rocco, eight.

It's a bit different from the last time Britney and Madonna appeared on stage together.

The pair caused a stir in 2003 when they shared a steamy lesbian kiss live on stage during the opening performance on the MTV Music Awards in New York's Radio City Music Hall.

It's not the first they have collaborated together, with Madonna appearing on Britney's track 'Me Against the Music' on her In The Zone album.

The comeback Queen was pictured last week dressed up as a witch as she took her two sons Jayden James and Sean Preston trick or treating.

She posted the shots on her website, along with the cover art for her new album Circus, which is due out on her birthday on December 2.
And the 'Womanizer' singer is set to appear on the X Factor show in two weeks' time to meet the contestants and perform her new single.

Madonna has thrown herself into her 32-concert Sticky and Sweet tour of the Americas after the announcement of her divorce with Guy Ritchie.

She faces a bitter divorce battle with the film director, with Kabbalah leaders demanding a quick out of court settlement.

Britney Spears' first love revealed

Britney Spears' first lover has come forward.

Reg Jones, now 30, has been revealed as the man who the 'Gimme More' singer lost her virginity to at the age of 14.

The troubled star's mother Lynne outed him in her tell-all book 'Through The Storm' which claims the former high school American football star had sex with the singer when he was 17.

The jilted lover - who Britney dumped for 'SexyBack' singer Justin Timberlake - admits he still thinks of the pop star and keeps a picture of his ex wearing a black bra.

He is quoted by Britain's Daily Star newspaper as saying: "We were madly in love and Britney was very passionate. I'd often stay over at her house and we'd fool around like any young couple.

"Although there was a couple of years difference in our age, it didn't seem to matter.

"She was everything a boy could have wanted - great-looking, always laughing and liked by everyone.
"One time she called me from Los Angeles, saying, 'Guess who I've just beaten at ping-pong? Leo DiCaprio.' How do you compete with that?"

Lynne's book also reveals how Britney - who broke down in tears when she found out her most intimate secrets were to be published - took drugs at 15 and started drinking aged 13.

Britney Spears' VMA opening

Britney Spears is set to open the MTV Video Music Awards this weekend.

The 'Toxic' singer - who stunned fans with her shambolic performance of 'Gimme More' at last year's ceremony - has not revealed exactly how she will be kicking off the prestigious Los Angeles event, but confirmed she has something "exciting" planned.

Britney - who is nominated for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video of the Year for her promo for 'Piece of Me' - told People magazine: "MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs? I'm excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated."

Referring to Britney's varied performances at past ceremonies - including controversially kissing Madonna at the 2003 ceremony - Van Toffler, the President of MTV Networks Music, added: "Britney has done everything from perform with a snake, lock lips with Madonna and prove that what happens in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas. I can't wait to see what she does to kick off this year's show."

However, a source close to the production revealed Britney - who has been nominated for 16 VMAs throughout her career but has never won - will not open the show with a musical performance.

The singer's manager Larry Rudolph said last week: "Britney Spears will not be performing at the VMAs this year. I'm telling you officially and unequivocally."

The MTV Video Music Awards are taking place in Los Angeles on Sunday (07.09.08).

Britney Spears' wild teen years

Britney Spears had sex at 14 and started taking drugs aged 15, according to her mother.

Lynne Spears' shocking revelations also include claims Britney began drinking at 13 and was introduced to drugs when she went to Los Angeles to record her first hit.

The 'Toxic' singer was even allegedly caught with cocaine and cannabis on a private jet when she was just 16.

Dispelling claims Britney lost her virginity to her former pop star boyfriend Justin Timberlake, Lynne says in her book 'Through the Storm' her daughter first had sex with an 18-year-old American football player while she attended her local high school in Kentwood, Louisiana, for a year before becoming a teen pop star.

Lynne admits she allowed Britney, aged 16, to sleep with Justin.

A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Lynne thought Britney was in love and Justin was good for her."

Lynne claims her daughter experimented with alcohol after joining Disney TV show 'The Mickey Mouse Club'.
Lynne - who has had a turbulent relationship with Britney since she split from ex-husband Kevin Federline in 2006 - admits in the memoir she regrets handing control of Britney's career over to her managers and allowing her to be promoted as a sex object at the age of 17 in the music promo for 'Baby One More Time'.

Lynne, 53, believes Britney's behaviour as a teenage star led to her public breakdown earlier this year, which involved her being put in a psychiatric hospital twice and losing custody of her two children, Sean Preston, almost three, and Jayden James, 23 months.

Healthy Britney Spears

Britney Spears says she has never been healthier.

The 'Toxic' singer, who recently showed off her toned body in a skimpy bikini while on holiday in Mexico, revealed her fantastic new figure is down to a strict high-protein diet.

She told America's OK! magazine: "I'm the healthiest I've been all my life. My diet has a lot to do with my getting into shape. I have no sugar. I don't eat fruit or even fruit juice because of the sugar. I eat chicken and salmon and rice. I eat avocados. I'll have egg whites for breakfast and sometimes turkey burgers for lunch.

"I try to do just 1,200 calories a day. It may sound like it's not much, but it's actually a lot of food if you eat the right things."

Britney has also embarked on a new exercise regime and has been doing "lots of cardio and weights" five times a week.

Meanwhile, it has been claimed the 26-year-old singer is going to try to regain full custody of her two sons, Sean Preston, two and 23-month-old Jayden James.

Britney is believed to have visited celebrity lawyer Barry Tarlow's office with her mother Lynne on Tuesday (19.08.08).
She is reportedly determined to get her sons back in the next six to nine months.

Britney currently has two visits and one overnight stay with her children, while her ex-husband Kevin Federline has primary custody.

A hearing has been scheduled for September 16.

Britney's custody battle has so far cost her an estimated £350,000 in legal bills.

Britney Spears' revealing reality

Britney Spears is reportedly set to star in a new reality TV show.

The troubled singer is set to defy the wishes of her family - including dad Jamie, who is co-conservator of her estate, and ex-husband Kevin Federline - to appear in the proposed fly-on-the-wall MTV documentary.

The proposed programme will focus on Britney's attempts to get her life and career back on track following her breakdown earlier this year.

A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Britney's dad is furious. He thinks it's a big mistake and doesn't want anything to do with it. But Britney thinks it will help her custody battle for her sons."

Britney's mother Lynne is said to be desperately trying to talk her daughter out of the show because she fears the 'Toxic' singer will use it as a platform to speak out before Lynne's tell-all book is published.

A worried friend of Britney - who has two sons Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, 23 months, with Kevin - said: "This could be the biggest car crash television moment of all time."

Britney has previously starred in an MTV reality show with Kevin, 'Britney and Kevin Chaotic' which aired in 2005
It was cancelled after one season and mainly featured home videos the couple had made

Britney Spears' custody battle could cost her over $700,000. The troubled singer's lengthy court process with ex-husband Kevin Federline to establish

Britney Spears' custody battle could cost her over $700,000.

The troubled singer's lengthy court process with ex-husband Kevin Federline to establish access rights to their sons, Sean Preston, two, and 23-month-old Jayden James, led to two law firms billing her a combined total of $466,000, court documents have revealed.

In addition, Britney, 26, also agreed to pay Kevin's legal fees, which amounted to around $250,000.

The largest bill comes from attorney Stacy D. Phillips, who claimed in court filings that she is owed nearly $407,000 for four months of work and says she has written off an additional $125,000 in fees.

The remainder of Britney's bill is for $60,000 for two months work from Laura Wasser who took over the case in June. She brokered the agreement between Britney and Kevin that saw him retain full custody while the singer has visitation rights.

Phillips claims the case was more complicated because Britney's father Jamie, as co-conservator of her estate, has control over Britney's affairs.

The payments have to be approved by the Los Angeles commissioner and lawyers for Britney and Jamie have indicated that they will contest the bill.
A hearing has been scheduled for September 16 to discuss the fee.

Britney and Kevin married in 2004 and their divorce was finalised last July. Under the terms of their divorce settlement, the singer currently pays her ex-husband $20,000 a month.

'Cleaning fanatic' Britney Spears

Britney Spears says she is a "cleaning fanatic".

The 'Toxic' singer - who has sons two-year-old Sean Preston and Jayden James, 23 months, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline - confessed she loves doing housework and particularly enjoys cleaning windows and making dinner.
She said: "I get mad if the maid does all the housework. If she takes it all into her own hands, well, what's for me to do? I'm a cleaning fanatic. Dusting is my favourite, and Windex-ing.

"Usually the maid and I will cook together. Sean and Jayden love my spaghetti."

Britney - who says she is "healthy, happy and exited" about her future - also revealed she has penned a song for her children, which will appear on her new album.

She added to America's OK! magazine: "I do sing to the boys. I actually wrote a song for my new album about them called 'My Baby'. It's a real beautiful song.

"I'm writing every day, right here at the piano in this living room. This is my best work ever.
The 26-year-old singer says she has been listening to her favourite female artists for inspiration while working on her new LP.

She explained: "I really like Rihanna. I think she's great. And the girl Duffy. I think she's amazing. And I like the new Madonna CD. I like Leona Lewis, too."

Britney wants her kids to have the normal childhood she never got

Britney Spears has revealed that she plans to steer her two sons away from a career in showbiz - because she wants them to have the "normal childhood" she missed out on.

The singer was thrust into the limelight at the age of 10, when she appeared on talent show Star Search and then landed a role in the Mickey Mouse Club. Her early start in fame has been blamed for her recent troubles, including the meltdown that lost her custody of Sean Preston, two, and one-year-old Jayden James.
Spears is determined the pair won't be pushed into showbiz as she tells OK! magazine, "If they want to do it, and they are talented enough, I would support them. But they'd have to express an interest on their own.

"I'd rather they didn't (pursue it) but I'd love them unconditionally if they wanted to. I'd just as soon they have a more normal childhood."

Meanwhile Spears - who released her debut album ...Baby One More Time at only 18 - is still hard at work on her next comeback record, calling it her "best work ever".

The disc will be Spears' sixth studio album - the follow up to last year's Blackout - and will see contributions from producers including Jonathan 'J.R.' Rotem and Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins.

Britney Spears loves to clean

Britney Spears has insisted that her maid leaves her chores to do around the house because cleaning is good therapy for the troubled star.

The Toxic singer admits she gets "mad" if she has no housework because she likes to unwind by getting down on her hands and knees to scrub and clean
She tells OK! magazine, "If she takes it all into her own hands, well, what's for me do?

"I'm a cleaning fanatic. Dusting is my favourite, and Windex-ing (cleaning windows)."
